Middle School Update

Posted in Middle School, Updates on May 15, 2008 by Nathan

We kicked off a new series Wired on Sunday called Grassroots. We’re looking into four big questions throughout the next four weeks…ask your student(s) and see if they can tell you what the first one was…? ;)

Also, Jake has challenged the boys to raise $250 for the launch of the theater campus (actually, I think he’s challenging them to raise beyond $250)! Don’t tell Jake, but I’m going to open this challenge up to the girls too. ;)

Here’s what will happen if they meet his challenge

  • If the students raise $300, Jake will dress up like a girl on a Sunday morning.
  • If the students raise $400, Jake will dress up like a girl on a Sunday morning and shave his legs.
  • If the students raise $500, Jake will dress up like a girl on Sunday morning, shave his legs and shave his head.

I know some of you are very disturbed that he is going to dress up like a girl if they do this, but I can assure you that Jake is ok in the head and has nothing wrong with him. :)

Encourage your students to find a way to bring this money in…I can assure you that I want to see this happen as much as they do!

It’s coming…

That’s right parents, we are officially doing a summer camp for the students at Oak Leaf Church!

We’ll be participating in a mission camp with many different student ministries all over Bartow County. We’ll go out and do service projects during the day, then come together for a worship session in the evenings. There will be more details coming your way soon…but here’s some quick stuff

What: SPLASH Summer Camp
When: July 30-August 2
Where: All over Bartow County
Who: All current Middle school and High school students

We’re looking for a few people to open their homes during those days for about 10-15ish students. If you are interested in this, or if you have any questions at all, email me at nathan@oakleafchurch.com

Make sure your high school students are at Limelight this coming Sunday night at 5 PM.

Limelight is our monthly student service that meets at 104 in downtown Cartersville. Chris Coleman will be playing music for us and we’ll be kicking off a new series called “P-Slam” venturing through the Psalms in the Bible.

Each week we’ll go hang out at Starbucks afterwards too. Get them to bring all their friends!

Limelight Tomorrow!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 15, 2008 by Nathan

Hey High School Parents-

Make sure your student gets to Limelight tomorrow at 104 in downtown Cartersville. Click here for a map to 104…

We’ll start at 5 and be done by 6. Afterwards we’ll go out and grab some food after tearing down. This will be a great time for students to get to know each other and build relationships. Do whatever you have to to get your student there and encourage them to bring as many friends as they can.

Wired Recap – March 9

Posted in Middle School on March 9, 2008 by Nathan

I was out of town today leading worship for a Student Retreat in Tennessee, but I heard that things were great in Wired today. Be sure to ask your middle school student about “the Baby Food Challenge”…I’m sure they will have some funny stories to tell you.

Tim spoke about how God made us to be wired (or connected) to Him. In this little mini-series we’re doing at Wired, we’re explaining certain things about the way God made us, and in doing this, we’re giving away why this new environment is called Wired.

I want to say a special thank you to Jake and the volunteers that made it happen today. You guys rock and we couldn’t do it without y’all! If you want to volunteer to help with middle or high school, email me at nathan@oakleafchurch.com

Wired will happen again next week, March 16 and then we’ll take a week off for Easter on the 23. We want to make sure that all the middle school students get to go to the main service and there will also be some extra need for volunteers all over the church that day. If you plan on being there for 2 or 3 services, make sure you help get your middle school student plugged into a volunteer position for that day, as well as going to the main service.

Thanks so much for all y’all do!

Wired Kick-Off

Posted in Middle School on March 3, 2008 by Nathan

Wired kicked off yesterday for all middle school students. We had a great turnout, and had a great time watching some students go after some bananas and get it all over their faces (part of one of the games we played).

We talked about what it means to be Wired and how God made us to be exactly the way that we are. We looked at Psalm 139 and talked about how all the details in our lives that make us who we are are all there on purpose and planted in us specially by God with a reason.

It was great day and we’re looking forward to next Sunday at Wired!

Middle School Update

Posted in Middle School on February 24, 2008 by Nathan

Here’s an update on what’s going on in middle school right now:

We had more guys show up than girls today at Journey Group…this was the first time that’s happened! I’m proud of the guys…they’re really growing and Jake’s doing a great job being a leader. The girls were still reppin strong though, so I gotta give some credit.

We finished up a series called “Dictionary” where we took many different terms used in Christianity and unpacked them to find out what they truly mean and how they apply to the students. We looked at words like sin, faith, and even the word Christian. It was a great month and I know the students have gained a better knowledge of some key terms thrown around in Christianity.

Next week, we launch Wired. Journey groups will become a part of Wired when it launches, but there will be a lot more than just groups. We’ll kick off with a series called “Wired” in which we’ll look at the way we’re made (or “wired” …get it?). Make sure your students are in the hallway behind the Cafe at 11 for Wired next week. We’re working really hard to make this hour the best your student has all week.

Wired will be every Sunday morning at 11 in the hallway behind the Cafe (it’s not as hard to find as it seems…just go across the parking lot from where the main service is and follow the sidewalk until you get to some doors. Hit the hallway and follow it away from the Cafe and you’ll run right into us!

Thanks for being a part of this ministry. I appreciate and care a lot about your kids and I’m glad that I get to be a part of their lives. Thank you for all you do as parents! These students rock! :)
